How to Build Confidence in What You Truly Want
How motherhood reshaped my confidence
Whether you’re in the early stages of motherhood or years into the journey, Matrescence - the emotional and physical transition into motherhood - can challenge your confidence in unexpected ways.
For me, it hit hardest when I returned to coaching after maternity leave. The version of me who once felt clear on my goals, ambitions, and direction suddenly felt… uncertain.
I no longer wanted to simply “go back” to how things were. I’d changed. My perspective had shifted. Motherhood reshaped how I saw myself - and what I wanted both personally and professionally.
Since then, I’ve rebranded my business, chosen to work specifically with mothers, and I’ve also been working on a new project behind the scenes (which is almost ready to go!).
Confidence is something I still build on every day - and I see the same in so many of my clients too.
3 Ways to Build Confidence in What You Want
1. Start with a blank space
Not what you think you should want. Not what you wanted before kids. Not what others expect of you.
✨ Start with a blank space and ask yourself:
What feels aligned for me now?
Sometimes the answer is surprising - and that’s okay.
2. Let go of past versions of success
The person you were before motherhood isn’t the person you are now - and that’s something to embrace.
Your version of success might have shifted. Maybe it’s about scaling back, pivoting your career, or dreaming even bigger. Whatever it looks like for you, confidence grows when you give yourself permission to define success on your terms.
3. Take small, courageous steps
Confidence rarely appears overnight. It’s built through small, intentional actions. Each time you take a step that’s aligned with who you are now - even if it feels scary - you strengthen your self-trust.
For me, rebranding my business and stepping back into coaching post-maternity leave were those steps. They weren’t easy, but they’ve led me to a far more aligned and fulfilling place.
You’re allowed to change - and feel confident in that
💡 You’re allowed to want more. You’re allowed to want something different. You’re allowed to feel confident in your new direction.
So this week, I invite you to reflect:
What do you truly want right now?
And what’s one small step you could take toward it?
